Butler 2 Fire Update

Location: San Bernardino National Forest, Western Big Bear Valley area.

Date of Fire Start: September 14, 2007
Cause: Under investigation
Acres burned: 14,039
Percent Contained: 53 %

Cooperating Agencies: CAL FIRE, San Bernardino County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office, Big Bear City, Big Bear City Fire Department, Big Bear Lake Fire Department and CalTrans.

Fire Status: Fire behavior is predicted to be moderate and moving to the Northeast. Short range spotting may be observed. Winds will be out of the south at 6 to 12 mph. Relative humidity and fuel moistures will be low.

Today's Actions: Continue fire line construction on the west (Green Valley Lake) and south (Hwy 18, Arctic Circle) flanks. Improve and hold existing line. Provide structure protection in Fawnskin, Lucerne Valley and Green Valley and along Highway 18.

Mandatory Evacuations:

Fawnskin - The Red Cross Evacuation Shelter at Big Bear High School was moved to the Pine Summit Christian Camp located at 700 Wren Drive in Big Bear Lake.

Voluntary Evacuations:

Lucerne Valley from Crystal Creek west to High Road.

Green Valley Lake, Running Springs and Arrowbear

Road Closures: Highway 18 is closed between Running Springs and Big Bear Lake Dam.

Use Hwy 38 as an alternate.
