At approximately 1:21 p.m. Friday September 14 crews were dispatched to a
vegetation fire north east of Butler Peak. The fire was wind driven with
winds out of the south. The fire has been and continues to travel towards
the North East with a rapid rate of spread. Mid to Long range spotting
has been occurring. Origin is still undetermined.
At 6:00 a.m. Southern California Interagency Command Team 3 assumed
command of the fire. They are currently working with Federal, State,
County, and other local resources to battle the fire.
Mandatory Evacuations:
- Fawnskin from the Big Bear Dam to the Discovery Center.
- Evacuation shelter has been set up by the Red Cross at Big Bear High School
Voluntary Evacuations:
- Lucerne Valley from Crystal Creek West to High Road and North to Pitzer
Buttes
- Voluntary Evacuation for Lucerne Valley from Crystal Creek west to High
Road.
Firefighters Injured:
- No injuries reported.

- Highway 18 is closed to Big Bear-Use Hwy 38 as alternate
Incident Priorities:
- Firefighter and public safety is our core value.
- Avoid, mitigate or eliminate all identified hazards.
- Provide timely public information on current and predicted fire
conditions.
Weather, Fire Behavior and Smoke Conditions:
Low humidity, low fuel moistures and temperature high ranging from 65 to
70 with winds out of the southwest15-20 mph. Fire behavior expected to
continue to be extreme.
