Moonlight Fire Update

Containment lines have continued to hold through the night. The fire is now 99% contained at 65,000 acres. Full containment is expected on Monday, September 17. The cost of fire control to date is $24.5 million.

One remaining mile of fire line located in steep terrain will be constructed today. Fire crews will continue to hold and mop-up 500 feet from control lines in all high risk areas on all sides of the fire. Structure protection will continue in portions of the Diamond Mountain, North Arm, Indian Valley, and Wilcox Valley areas. Aerial based thermal heat detection is being used to direct firefighters to any hot spots.

While 2,635 people remain, demobilization is now in full swing with 1,000 fire fighters expected to leave today. The fire is now managed under single incident command. A new team will take over the fire at 6:00 am.Tuesday, September 18.

A mandatory evacuation order continues for Antelope Lake, Wilcox Valley and Taylor Lake. Residents are being allowed to return home in all other areas that were previously evacuated.

A Forest Closure Order remains in place to ensure safety in the vicinity of the fire. Road closures will continue for upper Genesee Valley at the junction of Genesee Valley Road and Flournoy Bridge (29N43), and at the junction of 28N01 (Janesville Grade) and 28N03 (Antelope Lake Road). To provide for firefighter safety, only residents will be allowed on the Diamond Mountain and North Arm Roads in Indian Valley. Please visit the Plumas or Lassen National Forest websites www.fs.fed.us/r5/plumas or www.fs.fed.us/r5/lassen for additional information on forest closures.

Indian Valley residents may see smoke in the morning for the next few days as smoke drifts down drainages and is kept low by an inversion. Smoke should clear by afternoon as light winds aid in dispersal. Residents in the Susanville and Janesville areas may see smoke for the next few days due to the southwest winds.

The Fire Information call center in Quincy will be open from 6 am to 6 pm through Sunday evening. Starting Monday, questions can be directed to 283-7882 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
