Moonlight Fire Update 9/13/07 0900 Hrs.
Incident: Moonlight Wildland Fire
Released: 9/13/2007
The Moonlight Fire is now 77% contained with good progress on the east side of the fire. The fire is 64,997 acres.
Red Flag warnings are in effect for today. Low pressure near the northern California coast will produce gusty winds over the area, with winds coming from the southwest, 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph developing by early afternoon. If the expected winds develop, they will test the containment lines today and possibly the next few days. If containment lines hold through this event, a high degree of confidence is building towards a containment date of next week.
Because the most active part of the fire is expected along the northeast and east perimeters, additional crews will be in this area. The burned areas from the Stream Fire and the Antelope Fire are helping crews control the fire spread to the east.
The mandatory evacuation for residents in North Arm Indian Valley is lifted. The voluntary evacuation order for residents of Taylorsville, Genesee Valley, and North Valley Road to Pecks Valley in Greenville has been lifted. A mandatory evacuation order is still in place for Taylor Lake, Franks Valley, Wilcox Valley and the Antelope Lake areas.
Indian Valley residents should see smoke clearing from the area. Residents in the Susanville and Janesville areas may see smoke today due to the southwest winds.
Structure protection will continue in portions of the Diamond Mountain, North Arm, Indian Valley, Franks and Wilcox Valley areas.
A Forest Closure Order is in place to ensure safety in the vicinity of the fire. All major highways remain open, however most Forest Roads in the area of the fire are closed to access. Road closures include: 27N46 north of Antelope Lake, 28N03 (known as the Antelope Lake Road) on the east end at the intersection with 28N01 (Janesville Grade), and the 29N43 road from Genesee to Antelope Lake is closed at the Flournoy Bridge. The North Arm and Diamond Mountain Roads are closed to the public but are open to residents.
