WALLOW FIRE UPDATE
Location: 7 miles southwest of Hayfork, California
Date and Time of Fire Start: August 29, 2007 @ 2:00 p.m.
Cause: Under Investigation
Cooperating Agencies: Forest Service, Cal Fire, California Highway Patrol, Trinity County, local fire departments
Estimated Fire Size: 1,500 Acres Estimated Fire Containment: 20%
Estimated Expected Containment: September 3, 2007
Committed Resources: 492 total personnel that include 19 Crews, 3 Helicopters, shared Air Tanker, 5 Engines, 2 Dozers, 17 Water Tenders, and fire support personnel
Operational Objectives: Keep the fire south of the 2N16 Indian Valley Road, east of Jims Creek, north of Naufus Creek, and west of the 2N07 Ragan Meadows Road.
Fire Activity: The low moisture is contributing to the fire spread and spotting. Only fair overnight relative humidity recovery continues. The fire remains active where fuel continuity allows fire spread. Firefighters expect backing fire spread and upslope movement in draws. Fire activity increases during mid-mornings in areas receiving morning sun. The east side of the fire continues to be the most active area of fire and progression. The fire will work up the west fork of Plummer Creek and try to move into the east fork with today's forecasted winds. Dense fuel pockets will continue to allow fire torching, spotting, and overall fire spread.
Past and Current Actions: Fire crews and dozers have completed hand and dozer lines along the northern, western and southern flanks of the fire. Today, firefighters will patrol, mop-up, and hold the line along those flanks and will initiate containment line construction along the eastern flank. The fire perimeter will be mapped today using GPS computers.
Fire Restrictions and Closures: For public safety, the Shasta-Trinity NF has implemented an area closure for the immediate north and east sides of the fire. Hunting camps in the Indian Valley area and roads leading into the fire area will be closed to public use.
Remarks: On Thursday evening, August 30, Northern California Interagency Incident Management Team (NorCal Team II) assumed management of the fire for the Shasta-Trinity NF.
