Wallow Fire
Update August 31, 2007, 8 a.m.
HAYFORK, Calif. - Crews are continuing to suppress the Wallow Fire which is currently burning 7 miles southwest of Hayfork, Calif. The fire was originally stated to be 18 miles southwest, but as information became clearer the location was adjusted.
The fire is currently 1500 acres. Overnight the fire laid down and crews were able to get 20 percent containment. The fire held along the handline and roads to the north, east and west flanks, however there was significant activity in the southeast corner near Plummer Creek. There are approximately 500 resources committed to the fire.
Rapid rate of spread and long range spotting continue to be a concern. The Forest Service in cooperation with the Incident Management Team are evaluating the implementation of area closures for Indian Valley, which will affect hunting in the area. Closures are expected to be implemented around noon today. Please check back periodically through out the day for updated information. Visitors in the Indian Valley area are advised to reduce speeds and be aware of emergency traffic on the roadways.
In light of the Wallow Fire, Forest Service officials are asking the public to take extra precautions with campfires this Labor Day weekend.
