W H Complex News Release

8/25/07 W H Complex Update

Incident: W H Complex Wildland Fire
Released: 8/25/2007

Headlines • The WH Complex remained at 28,550 acres and is 65% contained. The Complex consists of two fires that are approximately 8 miles apart. The perimeter of the fires has remained unchanged for several days. • The amount of contained perimeter and mop up on the west sides of the Wicked Creek Fire and the Hicks Park Fire continue to increase, reducing the threat to structures on both fires. • Suppression efforts are focused on extending the perimeter containment and mopping up identified hot spots on within approximately 200 feet of the line. Crews also are snagging roads, patrolling for smokes, and pulling unneeded supplies and equipment from the line back to camp. • Mop-up on both fires continues and a handheld infrared detection device is being used to ensure there is no residual heat. • There are currently 385 personnel working on the WH Complex including seven 20-person hand crews, one helicopter, 22 engines, one skidder, and one timber processor. • Demobilization of some fire resources is continuing. Hicks Park Fire – Size unchanged at 2,500 acres. Crews continue to work to secure the fire perimeter and mop up on the northwest, west, and southwest flanks of the fire. Helitack personnel were flown into Alpine Lake yesterday to work on a pocket of heavy fuels on the east side of the Hicks Park Fire. Wicked Creek Fire – Size unchanged at 26,050 acres. Crews continue to work to secure the fire perimeter and mop up on the west, northwest, and southwest flanks of the fire. Snag removal along the main road through the center of the burn has been completed. Area closures - The area closures for the Livingston and Big Timber Ranger Districts have been reduced in size, while the Custer National Forest closure remains the same. Public use is not allowed within area closures. Contact the District offices for more information or visit InciWeb for a current map. Evacuations – All evacuation orders have been rescinded. Only landowners and residents (not the general public) are allowed to access their private land within current Area Closures. Law enforcement personnel will be patrolling the areas for safety and security purposes. ##### Visit InciWeb at http://www.inciweb.org and click on the WH Complex for more information.
