Fire Restrictions Lifted on Southwest Idaho Public Lands
Boise - Recent rain and cooler temperatures have prompted wildland fire officials to lift Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in several areas of the state. Specifically, lands administered by the Boise, Payette, and Sawtooth National Forests and Boise and Twin Falls Districts Bureau of Land Management Districts saw fire restrictions end the evening of Wednesday, September 19. Lands administered by the Idaho Department of Lands will do away with Stage 1 Fire Restrictions effective Friday, September 21 at 12:01 am. throughout the entire state.
"It has been a long summer for Idaho," said Guy Pence, Fire Staff Officer for the Boise National Forest. "Dry conditions coupled with incredible fire activity around the state kept us in fire restrictions for months. We are glad to see the light at the end of the tunnel and be able to pull the restrictions."
With the lifting of fire restrictions, visitors to Idaho wildlands are free to have a campfire, use a charcoal barbeque, or sheepherder stove. Wildland fire managers ask people to remember to use water to drown all campfires and to soak all charcoal and hot ash from barbeques and stoves.
Wildfires have consumed nearly two million acres in Idaho so far this year. Area closures remain in effect around some of the larger fires in the state. Check with local public land management offices to obtain the most current information on fire activity for your area or check www.fs.fed.us/r4/bilc.
