CASCADE COMPLEX UPDATE
Fire activity remained moderate throughout the day yesterday due to an inversion over the fire area. This enabled fire crews to conduct a successful burnout operation to clean up the northern fire perimeter adding to the protection Yellow Pine. Moderate fire growth and the burnout operation increased the size of the fire to 281,692 acres and 30% containment. Fire activity has continued to increase in the Johnson Creek area over the two days.
Activity is expected to increase significantly with predicted changes in weather. A dry cold front moving in from the north will bring high winds pushing fire movement to the south. Crews will continue to focus on structure protection, prioritizing and taking suppression actions where threat to structures is most imminent.
Idaho Power will continue their effort to replace burned poles in the area. They are still unable to predict when power will be fully restored.
The Level III evacuation orders remain in place for Johnson Creek, Yellow Pine and Warm Lake. Area and road closures remain in affect in the vicinity of the fire. Visit www.fs.fed.us/idahofires for up-to-date information on closures affecting the Boise, Payette and Salmon-Challis National Forests.
