Brief Hwy 55 Closure Anticipated

Boise, ID - The Chief Parrish Fire along Highway 55 (south of Banks) is now at 2,790 acres. Highway 55 is currently open between Horseshoe Bend and Banks; however the Idaho Department of Transportation has implemented a pilot car system (one lane only), and travelers can expect a 30-minute delay. Fire managers are planning to conduct a burn-out operation on the north end of the fire today or tomorrow (depending on weather conditions) between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Highway 55 will be closed during that operation. For up-to-date information on the closure, contact the Idaho Department of Transportation recorded line at 888-432-7623 or call "511," or visit 511.idaho.gov on the web. In the recording, choose "Banks" as the starting reference point. The Payette River remains open to floaters between Banks and Horseshoe Bend, though users should be alert for air operations in the area. For more information on the Chief Parrish Fire, contact Linda Steinhaus at 208-861-1568.

Cascade Complex Update Total: 251,892 acres, 30% contained

The Level 3 Mandatory Evacuation for Yellow Pine and Johnson Creek residents remains in effect. Some power poles have burned in the area southwest of Warm Lake, and power is expected to be shut down for several more days from Warm Lake to Yellow Pine.

Thunderstorm activity with heavy rain limited fire behavior yesterday. The combination of cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels is expected to result in low to moderate fire activity again today.

Resources: 543 personnel, 12 crews, 7 aircraft, 30 engines
