Chief Parrish and Cascade Complex Updates

Boise, ID - The Chief Parrish Fire along Highway 55 south of Banks has increased to 3000 acres. The fire spotted to the west of the highway, but those spot fires were caught quickly by firefighters, and the activity is now limited to east of the road. At this time, the highway remains closed between Horseshoe Bend and Banks; however the Idaho Department of Transportation is hoping to instigate a pilot car system in place of the closure around noon today. For up to date information on the closure, contact the Idaho Department of Transportation recorded line at 888-432-7623. In the recording, choose Banks as the starting reference point. Merrill Saleen's Type 2 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire at 6 a.m. today. The Lead Information Officer is Linda Steinhaus, 208-861-1568.

The Yellow Pine Fire Chief mobilized a strike team of engines to protect structures in Yellow Pine. This occurred under an agreement with Valley County Emergency Management Office. The Level 3 Mandatory Evacuation for Yellow Pine and Johnson Creek residents remains in effect. A couple of power poles have burned in the area southwest of Warm Lake. Power is expected to be shut down for several more days from Warm Lake to Yellow Pine.

Cascade Complex Update Total: 278,334 acres, 30% contained

Minimal rain was received on the complex. The Monumental and Riordan Fires have burned together at the head of Pistol Creek. The combined fire will be reported as Monumental. Fire behavior was limited due to a persistent smoke inversion. Crews continue to remove fire-damaged hazardous trees around roads, particularly for access into Yellow Pine.

Resources: 653 personnel, 14 crews, 10 aircraft, 30 engines
