Another New Fire, Another Red Flag Day
Boise, ID - Another Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Boise National Forest that could once again challenge firefighter efforts. A strong weather system is expected to move across the area today and tonight that will bring abundant lightning and high winds. There is also a chance this system will bring heavy rainfall.
The Valley County Sheriff's Office has issued a Level 3 Mandatory Evacuation for Yellow Pine and Johnson Creek residents. The Monumental Fire made a significant push in the Loosum Creek area and burned within one mile of Yellow Pine. Several residents remain in town. Fire personnel remain in the area. Warm Lake Road access is now limited to fire personnel due to the closing of Johnson Creek Road to the north and the Landmark-Stanley Road to the south. Power has been shut off from Warm Lake to Yellow Pine due to fire activity southwest of Warm Lake.
The new Chief Parrish Fire burning on both sides of Highway 55 at milepost 74 is now 1500 acres. The fire began late yesterday afternoon about four miles south of Banks on BLM land, but is under the jurisdiction of the Idaho Department of Lands. A pilot car system is being used by Idaho State Police to assist traffic through the area. However, the fire has caused rolling rocks and falling trees, so travelers are urged to avoid the area. A Type 2 Incident Management team will be assuming command of the fire tomorrow.
