Evacuation Elevation/New Fire/Red Flag Day

Boise, ID - The Valley County Sheriffs Office has issued a Level 3 Mandatory Evacuation for the few remaining residents of Johnson Creek. Only three residents have remained in the area, and they will be escorted out today. This does not affect the residents of Yellow Pine, who remain under a Level 2 Voluntary Evacuation at this time. Warm Lake Road access is now limited to fire personnel due to the closing of Johnson Creek Road to the north and the Landmark-Stanley Road to the south.

A new fire believed to be lightning-caused has begun in the area of the Monumental Fire, east of Curtis Lake. The Curtis Creek Fire is approximately 7 acres in size. Crews are working on the fire today.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect today that includes the Boise National Forest. Gusty winds and low humidities are expected to start around 3 p.m. this afternoon and continue late into the evening. Combined with near record high temperatures today, these conditions will challenge firefighter efforts this Labor Day.

This holiday was formed to pay tribute to the social and economic achievements of American workers. Today we say thank you to all the brave men and women fighting wildfires in Idaho and this country who put their lives on the line to protect the lives and property of others.

Cascade Complex Update Total: 251,892 acres, 30% contained

Monumental Fire - 202,155 acres, Riordan Fire - 49,737 acres

The Monumental Fire has spotted across the Middle Fork Salmon River in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Air resources will fly the area today to assess structure protection needs. Fire on the east of Johnson Creek burned under power lines yesterday intermittently requiring de-energizing the lines. Power has since been restored.
