Fire Weather Watch on Monday

Boise, ID - Firefighters battling the fires currently burning on the Boise and Payette National Forests are in for another bumpy ride due to upcoming weather conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for tomorrow afternoon through the evening for gusty winds and low humidity. Today's conditions are expected to be slightly warmer and drier, but near record high temperatures are forecast Monday along with increasing winds. A major change in the pattern by midweek brings showers and thunderstorms first then much cooler weather.

Cascade Complex Update Total: 249,599 acres, 30% contained

Monumental Fire - 200,524 acres, Riordan Fire - 49,076 acres

Windy conditions dried out any moisture from Friday's storm, resulting in increased fire activity. The fire on the east side of the Johnson Creek area backed slowly down to the containment lines. A group of five engines will be placed into the area to assist in protection efforts. Fire in the Profile Creek area between Yellow Pine and Big Creek moved slowly north/northeast. Crews in the Warm Lake and Paradise areas continue to clear trees from roadways and rehabilitating dozer lines. Night crews continue to patrol the Yellow Pine, Landmark and Warm Lake areas for structure protection.

Resources: 647 personnel, 10 crews, 10 aircraft, 37 engines

Warm Lake Road remains closed except to fire personnel and property owners in Yellow Pine, Johnson Creek and Big Creek. The Warm Lake area remains closed to all but emergency traffic. Yellow Pine and Johnson Creek remain under a Level 2 Evacuation Order, but should be prepared for a higher level evacuation at any time.

Visitors to the Forest this Labor Day weekend are being asked to do their part by observing the Stage 2 Fire Restrictions in effect. Under these restrictions, all campfires, open flames, sheepherder stoves and Dutch ovens are prohibited. Stoves fueled by propane, white gas or LPG are allowed. Smoking outside an enclosed vehicle or building and operating motorized vehicles off designated roads and trails are also not permitted.
