Fire Weather Watch Issued
Boise, ID - A fire weather watch is in effect tomorrow for all of the Boise and Payette National Forests due to lightning and dry fuels. The Incident Meteorologist for the Cascade Complex burning on the Boise National Forest forecasts a continued warming and drying trend today. On Thursday, more moisture and instability will combine to generate some isolated thunderstorms and dry lightning. These elements have the potential to start new fires or increase the size of current fires.
The southeast corner of the Zena Loon Fire burning on the Payette National Forest has been moving toward the Yellow Pine area. Cascade Complex firefighters used heavy helicopters yesterday to attempt to suppress that flank of the Zena Loon Fire.
Cascade Complex Total: 236,282 acres, 26% contained
Monumental Fire 184,509-acres, Riordan Fire - 48,075 acres
The Johnson Creek area continues to have fire on the eastern ridge which is backing slowly to the west. The Monumental Fire is moving to the northeast and may grow together with the Riordan Fire. A burnout to secure the area around the Landmark Guard Station is scheduled for today if conditions permit. A defensive strategy remains in place to protect structures and critical infrastructure. Crews continued to remove hazardous trees that have been damaged by fire along roadways.
Resources: 776 personnel, 19 crews, 9 aircraft, 29 engines
