Fire Conditions Continue to Limit Access to Homes

Boise, ID - Residents of Yellow Pine, Johnson Creek and the Big Creek areas had brief and limited opportunities yesterday to travel the Warm Lake Road to their homes. Fire activity around the Landmark area forced intermittent closures of the Johnson Creek Road over the weekend. These temporary closures are likely to continue until the hazardous conditions subside. Planned escorted access for residents of Warm Lake and Paradise Valley has been postponed until further notice.

A community meeting is planned for Yellow Pine area residents tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Community Center. Representatives from the Valley County Sheriffs Office, Boise National Forest and the Type 1 Incident Management Team working on the Cascade Complex will attend.

Cascade Complex Total: 230,245 acres, 25% contained

Monumental Fire 182,384-acres, Riordan Fire - 47,661 acres

Winds are expected to be weaker today, with warmer and drier conditions predicted for tomorrow. Wednesday and Thursday could bring afternoon dry thunderstorms. A defensive strategy remains in place to protect structures and critical infrastructure. Observed fire behavior yesterday included group torching and short crown runs, although creeping and smoldering occurred over the balance of the fire area. Direct suppression was used in the Landmark area to reduce fire impact to Johnson Creek Road.

Resources: 782 personnel, 16 crews, 10 aircraft, 39 engines.
