Yesterdays Fire Activity
Once again, high temperatures, low relative humidity, and escalated wind speeds combined to produce moderate fire activity. Torching, spotting and limited crown runs occurred in several locations throughout the fire. Direct suppression actions were employed in the Landmark area to reduce the impact to the Johnson Creek Road. Nevertheless, intermittent closures of the road occurred.
Residents of Yellow Pine and Big Creek had brief and limited opportunities of travel. Access was restored as quickly as possible and is subject to change pending fire activity.
Assessments of the Management Action Points within the wilderness were completed. A strategic plan for inserting suppression resources for point protection into the wilderness was developed.
The Johnson Creek area remained active but no major problems developed.
Hotspots on the southern perimeter in the Deadwood area were extinguished and the area is relatively secure and looking good.
Resources remained in the Warm Lake area and continued point protection, fuel reduction, and hazard tree removal.
Yellow Pine remains in a Level 2 evacuation status and residents are still advised to be prepared for the possibility of a higher level evacuation.
Today's Planned Activity
Crews will continue to take action on identified point protection objectives at Yellow Pine, Johnson Creek, Deadwood, Warm Lake, Stolle Meadows, Paradise Valley and Landmark. Fire personnel are poised and ever vigilant to take advantage of opportunities for aggressive suppression action where required.
Other Important Messages
Area, road, and trail closures are in effect around the Cascade Complex. More specific information may be obtained at the local Forest Service offices.
Due to fire activity and hazardous conditions within the Warm Lake area no further escorted visits will be scheduled until further notice. Warm Lake and Paradise areas are still closed to everyone other than fire personnel.
A community meeting is planned for Yellow Pine on Tuesday, August 28th, at 2 P.M. in the Community Center. Cascade Complex fire information will be presented by members of the Muir Type I Great Basin Incident Management Team..
