August 23rd 2007
Due to recent precipitation, viewing the impacted areas and consulting with Forest Officials, the Valley County Sheriff has elected to downgrade the level III evacuation order to level II. We do not believe, at this time, that there is an imminent threat to the town of Yellow Pine. Level II indicates that there is still a danger and evacuation is recommended. Every attempt should be made to prepare for immediate evacuation to include the removal of livestock, preparing residences for absenteeism and gathering personal belongings. Only primary residents will be allowed into the effected area and we ask for your cooperation in this.
Please be aware that, while not imminent, a danger still exists due to the nature of the fires and their locations. We are expecting dry and windy conditions over the next several days and it may be necessary to institute level III evacuations once again. We are hoping for the best. Travel on Warm Lake road and Lick Creek road will be at your own risk and should be done with extreme caution.
Some of the dangers include but are not limited to: fire behavior on or near roadways which may close roads, falling debris and fire fighters falling timber. Please use extreme caution.
The Valley County Sheriffs office in conjuction with forest officials will be developing trigger points for the town of Yellow Pine, as the Monumental, Zena-Loon and the Riordan fires converge.
We believe a danger still exists. Please limit your traffic and travel safely.
Thank you for your patience.
Sincerely,
Patti Bolen Sheriff
