Rain Not Enough To End Fires
Boise, ID - The welcome precipitation received over the past 2 days is being described as a "season slowing event" that has temporarily moderated fire activity on the Boise National Forest. However, the forecast for the next three to five days calls for a warming, drying trend that will continue to challenge firefighter efforts. Additionally, gusty winds are anticipated this Saturday that have the potential to cause erratic fire behavior and spot fires.
The former Landmark Complex and the former Cascade Complex on the Forest have now been restructured and combined. The new Cascade Complex consists of the Monumental and Riordan Fires.
Cascade Complex (2 fires)
Monumental Fire - 163,941 acres, 11% contained
The fire is smoldering after receiving light rain. The fire will continue to spread north and east towards the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Warm Lake Road remains closed to all non-emergency traffic, and power lines between Scott Valley and Yellow Pine are shut down. For power outage information, contact Idaho Power: 1-800-488-6151. Resources: 938 personnel, 28 crews, 5 aircraft, 38 engines.
Riordan Fire - 47,270 acres, 15% contained
Crews are continuing to improve structure protection around developments in the Yellow Pine and Johnson Creek areas. Lick Creek Road remains closed until further notice to all non-emergency traffic. Evacuations remain in effect for the Yellow Pine and Johnson Creek areas - for information, contact the Valley County Sheriff at 208-382-7150. Resources: 316 personnel, 5 crews, 4 aircraft, 3 engines.
