New Website Offers Fire Information for Central Idaho National Forests

Boise, ID - Regional fire information is now available at http://www.fs.fed.us/idahofires for the Boise, Payette, and Salmon-Challis National Forests. This site also provides a direct link to inciweb.org and Google mapping. Fire updates, maps, and closure information are available at the site. While all recreation areas west of Highway 55 are open, a closure order was issued Friday for almost the entire portion of the Boise National Forest's Cascade Ranger District that is east of Highway 55, bordering the Payette NF to the north. This order (No. 0402-04-30) supercedes the portions of all other closure orders covering the same areas of the Cascade and Landmark Complexes.

Cascade Complex 50,393 acres, 21% contained Both Cascade Complex large fires have exhibited active behavior. The North Fork Fire is moving east toward Knox Ranch and the South Fork Salmon River Road. The Monumental Fire has moved north to Bear Creek Lake and aligned with Rock Creek Drainage. Warm Lake Road is closed to all but emergency traffic due to extreme fire behavior that could compromise public safety. Re-opening of this road will be re-evaluated when the fire danger subsides. Lick Creek Road remains open to only residents and those working in the Yellow Pine and Johnson Creek areas. For information on closures, contact the Valley County Sheriff at 208-382-7150 Potential Power Outages: Power to Idaho Power Co. customers between Scott Valley and Yellow Pine may be temporarily shut down during burnout operations over the next few days. Fire Updates: Monumental Fire 32,354 acres, 16% contained; North Fork Fire 13,039 acres, 35% contained. Resources: 1,103 personnel, 35 crews, 6 aircraft, 34 engines.

Landmark Complex 47,157 acres, 30% contained Riordan Fire experienced wind driven behavior with group torching and active fire runs. Active fire behavior on the Sandy Fire in the wilderness portion included active fire runs, with creeping and smoldering outside the wilderness. Warm Lake Road and Johnson Creek Road are currently closed. Lick Creek Road is open for Yellow Pine residents and workers only. Fire Updates: Riordan Fire 33,828 acres, 18% contained; Sandy Fire 13,329 acres, 57% contained

Middlefork Complex 17,345 acres, 85% contained Crews continue to hold and improve previous containment lines. Fire Updates: Sheep Trail Fire 8,704 acres, 95% contained; Lightning Fire 6,981 acres, 70% contained; Lucky Fire 1,582 acres, 100% contained.

Trapper Ridge Wildland Fire Use 18,173 acres Resources: 46 personnel, 1 crew, 1 aircraft. This fire is being managed by the Middlefork Complex.
