FIRE SITUATION:

Initial containment lines have been completed around the entire fire perimeter earlier than expected due to the cooler temperatures and rainfall received yesterday. This allowed crews to construct direct line near the fire's edge. The objectives of crews for the next several days will be to strengthen and hold these lines and continue mop-up efforts. An infrared flight was completed Tuesday night; the acreage increase reflects the results. The map developed from the flight data shows the growth of the fire on the northwest and west flanks. The data also indicates significant amounts of heat still remain in this area and will require several days of work to secure the reconstructed lines. Containment along these flanks remains a challenge due to steepness of terrain. Rolling, burning debris continues to be an issue. The east flank along the Forest 27 road remains in patrol status. Crews on the south flank have mopped up 100 ft in from the containment line and continue to clean-up any hotspots. The north and west flanks are also in mop-up status with efforts being made to secure the line. Helicopters are supporting the suppression effort by flying and slinging in equipment such as hose and water pumps. Dozers no longer needed for line construction have been demobilized.

CLOSURES:

The temporary flight restriction over the fire remains in effect at a 5 mile radius and 2000' above ground level.

WEATHER:

An unseasonably strong upper level low pressure area will persist over the northeast Pacific today. This will maintain moist southerly flow aloft along with cooler and more humid conditions than normal for this time of year. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy with a passing sprinkle or shower. A little more sunshine will occur in the afternoon with max temperatures of 70 to 74 degrees, relative humidity of 38 to 42%, with east winds 2 to 4 mph in the morning, becoming west this afternoon. Westerly wind speeds will increase through the afternoon to 6 to 8 mph with gusts of 15 to 20 mph.
