FIRE SITUATION:

The Ball Point Fire continues to have no significant growth however the northwest and west flanks continue to be active hampering suppression efforts. Containment along the northwest and west flanks are challenged due to steepness of terrain. Required containment line locations are a challenge due to rolling and burning debris compromise the constructed line. Crews are reconstructing line built yesterday on these flanks due to fire movement over the line in several locations. On the north flank, hand line construction and mop-up along Tygh Creek continues. Fuels are burned between the fireline and the fire perimeter to keep the fire in check and from crossing Tygh Creek. Line construction and 300 ft mop-up into the fire edge have been completed on the east flank along the Forest Road 27. This area of the fire will be patrolled by gridding to search for any remaining hot spots. On the southern flank, hand line inside the wilderness has been joined by the dozer line outside the wilderness boundary to complete the line construction on this flank. Remaining fuels between the constructed line and the fire edge were also burned out. The entire flank has hose layed along the constructed line for mopping-up hot spots. Two engines continue night patrols.

A Burned Area Emergency Response Team from the Mt. Hood National Forest will be on the firelines reviewing the burned area for rehabilitation requirements.

CLOSURES:

A temporary flight restriction over the fire is still in effect at a 5 mile radius and 2000' above ground level.

WEATHER:

An upper level low pressure trough along the Pacific coast will support a moist southerly flow across the fire area today. A strong disturbance will move up from the south this afternoon to support some light rain over the fire. Clouds and rain will keep temperatures cool with fairly high relative humidity values. Clouds will also lessen the effects of the routine terrain-driven wind. The forecast for today is for clouds and light rain focused around mid-day and early afternoon with rainfall amounts of 0.05 to 0.1 inches. Temperatures will be a maximum of 70-74 degrees, with relative humidity between 44-48%, winds will be SW-W 5-7 mph, gusting to 15-20 mph.
