Location: 3 miles north of Imlay, Nevada
Date and Time of Fire Start: July 6 at 5:27 p.m.
Cause: Lightning
Fuels: Brush and grass
Cooperating Agencies: BLM, NPS, USFS, FWS, Pershing County, Sierra Pacific Power, Union Pacific Railroad, NV Department of Wildlife, Nevada National Guard, and local government
Estimated Fire Size: 61,951 Acres (change in acreage due to more accurate mapping)
Estimated Fire Containment: 100%.
Estimated Cost to Date: $1,000,000
Injuries to Date: 0
Committed Resources: 192 total personnel including 4 Fire Crews, 1 Helicopter, 8 Engines, 5 Dozers, and 2 Water Tenders
Structures Threatened: None
Structures Damaged: Commercial: 2
Structures Destroyed: Outbuilding: 1
Hazards: Unpredictable winds from thunder cell down drafts, dehydration & heat stress, driving hazards (rocks & dust), downed power lines, mine shafts & adits (open-hole mining).
Fire Activity: Fire behavior has been reduced by the suppression efforts and rain that occurred last night over the fire area.
Today's Actions: Firefighters will continue to patrol the fire and mop-up around the perimeter. Excess resources will be released.
Closures: None. I-80 open to traffic in both directions. Union Pacific Railroad lines are open.
Remarks: The Type 2 Incident Management Team (Nor Cal Team II, Kaage) will continue to manage the Tungsten Fire, while being prepared for initial attack on any new fires in the area. Nor Cal Team II is in transition with CA Incident Management Team 4 to also assume command of the Thomas Fire beginning Friday, July 12. This will be the last fire update.
