Location: 3 miles north of Imlay, Nevada
Date and Time of Fire Start: July 6 at 5:27 p.m.
Cause: Lightning
Fuels: Brush and grass
Cooperating Agencies: BLM, NPS, USFS, FWS, Pershing County, Sierra Pacific Power, Union Pacific Railroad, NV Department of Wildlife, Nevada National Guard, and local government
Estimated Fire Size: 61,951 Acres (change in acreage due to more accurate mapping)
Estimated Fire Containment: 75%.
Expected Containment Date: 7/12/2007
Estimated Cost to Date: $650,000 Injuries to Date: 0
Committed Resources: 302 total personnel including 6 Fire Crews, 13 Engines, 4 Dozers, and 5 Water Tenders
Structures Threatened: None
Structures Damaged: Commercial: 2
Structures Destroyed: Outbuilding: 1
Hazards: Potential for extreme fire behavior, dehydration & heat stress, driving hazards (rocks & dust), downed power lines, mine shafts & adits (open-hole mining).
Fire Activity: No active fire behavior was observed on last night's shift.
Past and Present Actions: Today, crews will continue to cold trail along the perimeter and mop-up hot spots. Hand and dozer line rehabilitation will be completed today. A potential for isolated thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon. Lightning from these storms pose threats for new fire starts.
Closures: None. I-80 open to traffic in both directions. Union Pacific Railroad lines are open.
Remarks: The Type 2 Incident Management Team (Nor Cal Team II, Kaage) continues to manage the Tungsten Fire while also being prepared for potential new fires in the area. Nor Cal Team II is assisting the local BLM District office and CA Incident Management Team 4 in the development of a transition plan to assume command of the Thomas Fire beginning Friday, July 12, while continuing to monitor the Tungsten Fire.
