Calamity Complex Fire Update - 7-13-07

Incident: Calamity Complex Wildland Fire
Released: 7/13/2007

Three of the five fires comprising the Calamity Complex have been contained and are being patrolled daily to ensure that no hot spots develop near the lines. Steady progress is being made toward containing the Grapple and Poison Fires. Fire officials expect to reach full containment by the end of shift on Monday, July 16.

While working toward mopping up all hot spots within 300 feet of the firelines, firefighters are also prepared to quickly attack fires that may start in the area as a result of today's expected lightning.

The fire team logistics staff is working hard to meet the unique needs of firefighters at the Incident Command Post in Seneca. With daytime temperatures running over 90 degrees, night crews are able to sleep well during the heat of the day thanks to two sleeper trailers on site. The sleeper trailers each provide 24 air-conditioned bunks in a dark setting and are the perfect solution to the sleep needs of day sleepers.

In anticipation of a long fire season, firefighters are being urged to pace themselves so they can continue to be effective and healthy throughout the next two or three months. Likewise, with continuing hot and dry conditions and lightning in the forecast, everyone is encouraged to be especially careful with fire near their homes and in the forest.
