Calamity Complex Fire Update - 7-12-07
Incident: Calamity Complex Wildland Fire
Released: 7/12/2007
The Calamity Complex consists of five lightning-caused fires located 15-20 miles southeast of Seneca, Oregon.
A burst of wind during the night caused trees to burn inside the lines of the Grapple and Poison fires, but fire did not spread outside of the firelines. The potential remains for torching trees to spread embers beyond the lines.
The Poison Fire is mopped up 100 feet in from the outer perimeter, and a successful burnout operation was conducted yesterday on the Grapple fire to further improve the fireline. Overall containment of the complex stands at 30%.
There is a fire weather watch this afternoon through tomorrow evening for dry thunderstorms and abundant lightning. Winds will shift to southerly, which may cause changes in fire behavior and new challenges to the firelines.
No injuries have been reported to date, though crews have been reminded to watch out for the rattlesnakes that have been observed in the area.
