Citadel Fire, July 8, 2007 Update
Incident: Citadel Wildland Fire
Released: 7/8/2007
Sufficiently little heat remains within the fire that starting on Tuesday evening only a few firefighters will be needed to monitor the remaining interior smokes.
Today: One crew will remove the sprinklers and hoses that were put out in case fire approached a historic cabin east of the fire. The other remaining crew will continue to mop up some patches of smoldering areas well within the fire's perimeter. The other crews that have been working on the fire are being released.
Saturday's Fire Activity: The fire received light rain. The rain is not enough to wet the fire area thoroughly, but still leaves behind higher humidity and reduced smoldering. Crews completed connecting the last segments of line around the fire, and spent most of the day mopping up. At the end of the shift they finished cleaning up their remote camping sites before all but one crew left the fire.
Fire restrictions are in place on the Shoshone National Forest. For more information see www.fs.fed.us/r2/shoshone. The Bobcat, Houlihan and Hardpan Creeks drainages remain closed.
Expected containment: July 9, 2007
Acres burned: 2,004
Percent contained: 80%
Cost to date: $1,709,000
Cause: Lightning started the fire on 6/25.
Incident Commander: Bill Hahnenberg
Including three crews who will leave this morning, 193 people are working on the Citadel fire. There have been no injuries.
