Nearing Containment on Horse Creek Blaze

Big Piney, Wyo: With 70 percent containment of the 8,465-acre Horse Creek Fire, firefighters made significant progress towards containment on Saturday in all divisions. Today crews plan to continue with mop up along all flanks and implement rehabilitation actions.
Fire managers anticipate full containment Monday, July 2. The fire will continue to be monitored and controlled by a small contingent of firefighters after July 3. One helicopter will remain to assist firefighters in this effort.
Demobilization of resources is scheduled to start on Sunday. Many resources will be returning to their home units or on to new assignments.
"Key areas of containment concern were heavily worked today with good success," said Incident Commander Merrill Saleen. "Little difficulty in completing 100 percent containment is expected.
Merrill Saleen's Great Basin Incident Management Team will transition firefighting responsibilities back to the Bridger - Teton National Forest July 3.
State of Wyoming employees, County Sheriff Department and Sublette County firefighters have provided excellent cooperation and assistance with suppression efforts.
Fire Danger Rating on the Bridger-Teton is now very high. Visitors to the forest are advised to be extremely careful with fire.
The Horse Creek Road is limited to all but authorized fire personnel. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No structures are threatened. For more information, visit http://www.inciweb.org/.
