Bar Complex Update

Pigeon Start: 09/02/06 Cause: under investigation Current Size: 35,101 acres Bake Oven Start: 07/23/06 Cause: lightning Current Size: 64,923 acres Bar Complex Total: 100,024 acres Current Information: Bar Fire Complex consists of the Bake Oven and the Pigeon Fires. Pigeon Fire is located 14 miles west of Weaverville on Highway 299. Bake Oven Fire is located 17 miles NE of Willow Creek, and 4 miles NE of Denny. Residences threatened: 391 Commercial: 43 Outbuildings/other: 504 Fire Containment: Pigeon Fire: 96% Bake Oven: 57% Combined: 73% Expected Containment: 10/15/2006 Cost to date: $58,900,000 Fire Activity: Higher temperatures and lower humidity is expected, resulting in more active fire behavior. Fire activity along the perimeter of the fire will be minimal but interior islands will continue to have active burning. More smoke may be visible over the fire area. Today’s Actions: Today’s activities will focus on continued construction of direct containment lines on the east and west flanks of the fire. Burning operations will also be conducted on the east side of the fire today and should be completed by tomorrow. Crews will continue to remove equipment and materials from the entire fire area. Additional fireline rehabilitation has begun and will be ongoing. Terrain: Steep and rocky canyons with slopes exceeding 75 percent. Resources Available: 6 Hand Crews, 10 Engines, 8 Helicopters, 5 Water Tenders Total Personnel: 470 Persons 0 Injuries Yesterday Closures for Public Safety: The Trinity River remains closed between Skunk Point Campground on the east and Whites Bar Day Use Area on the west. Travel is prohibited on Big French Creek, Canyon Creek, and Hobo Gulch Roads. The Shasta-Trinity National Forest General Forest Area Closure remains in effect.
