Contact: Incident Information, Yvonne Jones Phone: (530) 468-1518 September 23, 2006 Fire suppression efforts continue on four large fires, Uncles, Hancock, Rush and Titus, in the Klamath National Forest s Marble Mountain Wilderness and Trinity Alps Wilderness. Firefighters continue to work in areas of extremely steep slopes and difficult accessibility. Due to the rugged terrain and concern for firefighter safety, an appropriate management response of a combination of containment/confinement is being implemented. Hancock Fire (15,480 acres and 25% containment): Helicopters will support field operations with water drops on the western and southern flanks along the Steinacher Ridge area and along the Steinacher Creek. Uncles Fire (3,760 acres and 70% containment): The fire will be patroled by aircraft. Rush Fire (4,875 acres and 100% containment): The fire will be patroled by aircraft. Total Complex Acreage: 24,115 Total Complex Containment: 50% Expected Full Containment: 10/03/2006 Cost to Date: $14,600,000 Injuries to Date: 11 Structures Threatened: 8, which include Fowlers Cabin, Wooley Camp, and Lower Abbott s Ranch. Committed Resources: 120 total personnel that include 2 Handcrews, 5 Helicopters, and 3 Water Tenders. Titus Fire (6,072 acres and 95% containment): The fire will be patroled by aircraft. Total Complex Acreage: 6,134 Total Complex Containment: 95% Expected Full Containment: 9/24/2006 Cost to Date: $13,000,000 Injuries to Date: 10 Fatalities: 2 Committed Resources: 4 total personnel.
