SIERRA INCIDENT February 8, 2006 - 0600 On Scene Contact: Dennis Cross, Fire Information Officer (714) 288-2714 www.ocfa.org or www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland Fire Status: Active Location: Between the cities of Corona and Orange Acres Burned: 6520 Percent Contained: 10% Cause: Under Investigation Date Started: February 6, 2006 Injuries: 4 Resources: Hand crews 32 Engine 132 Helicopters 10 Water Tenders 5 Air Tankers 5 Dozers 6 Total personnel assigned to fire: 1902 Current Fire Situation: The fire began at approx 0428 Hrs on February 6, 2006 in the Cleveland National Forest. A Unified Command was established with The U.S. Forest Service, CDF, Orange County Fire Authority, City of Anaheim, and City of Orange. All agencies will work together to manage the incident. Firefighters are working in extremely steep and rugged terrain. Wind driven fire with northeast wind gusting up to 40 - 50 mph. Relative humidity in the single digits to low teens. The evacuation order for people with homes in the affected areas of the cities of Anaheim and Orange is lifted as of 4:00 p.m. February 7. The fire continues to be under investigation. Preliminary results from the fire investigation team indicate that this was as an escaped prescribed burn. Road Closures: Toll Road 241 is closed in both directions between the 91 freeways and Highway 133 until further notice. Sierra Fire 2/7/06 Incident Priorities: -To provide for public and firefighter safety and protection of property. -Keep suppression costs commensurate with values at risk. -Be sensitive to the concerns of the public and communities at risk and keep them informed. -Protect sensitive environmental areas, threatened and endangered species, and Arch sites. Weather and Fire Behavior: Low humidity, high temperatures, and strong northeast winds. With wind protected areas, rates of spread is diminished. And the fire will become a fuels and topography driven. Agencies Involved: US Forest Service, CDF, Orange County Fire Authority, City of Anaheim, CHP, Orange County Sheriff, Southern Cal.
