LITTLE BALD MOUNTAIN FIRE UPDATE
Grantsville, Utah - The lightning caused Little Bald Mountain fire has been mapped at 558 acres and estimated to be 80% contained. Full containment of the fire is not expected for 15 to 20 days, primarily due to the steep, rugged and inaccessible terrain on the west flank of the fire. However, natural barriers exist that will prevent fire spread to the north, west, and south. The fire is located in South Willow Canyon in the Stansbury Mountains near Grantsville. Yesterday, the fire continued to creep and smolder into the Deseret Peak Wilderness. The fire crews made excellent progress on the fire due to their hard work and cooler tempatures. Today, the fire crews are still battling steep, rocky terrain but continue to mop-up and secure the perimeter, especially in the South Willow Canyon and southwest corner of the fire. On portions of the fire, rehabilitation efforts are being initiated.
The Incident Management Team will transfer the management of the fire back to the local unit on Friday, August 8 at 6.p.m.
Resources assigned: Five 20 person crews, 2 helicopters, 5 engines, and 1 water tender, for a total of 198 personnel, are currently assigned to the fire.
Closures - Box Elder Canyon, South Willow Canyon, North Willow Canyon, and campgrounds in those areas are closed for public safety and to allow access for fire suppression equipment.
Prevention Message:
