FOREST SERVICE BATTLES FIRE IN STANSBURY MOUNTAINS

Provo, Utah - August 1, 2008 - A fire burning in South Willow Canyon, in the Stansbury Mountains near Grantsville, has burned approximately 400 acres. The lightning-caused fire began yesterday and is burning in heavy timber, and steep, rocky terrain. Four 20-person crews, three helicopters, and engines from the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management are currently assigned to the Little Bald Mountain fire.

The road, campgrounds, and trail heads in South Willow Canyon are closed for public safety and to allow access for fire suppression equipment. The wildfire is currently threatening the campgrounds in the upper part of the canyon. The nearest residences are 2 1/2 miles from the fire and are not threatened.
