Fire Update for Saturday, September 6, 2008

Incident: Rattle Wildland Fire
Released: 9/7/2008

Type 3 Incident Management Team

Saturday, September 6, 2008

ORCA Type II Incident Management team will assume command of the Rattle Fire on Sunday, September 7, at 6 am. Due to a significant increase in crews and fire resources the fire camp at Oregon Department of Transportation Sandshed will be relocated to Toketee Airstrip beginning Saturday evening.

Crews are constructing hand line to arrest growth on the spot fires south of Hwy. 138. This line will be used for future burnout operations if needed. Hoselay was started on the 4760 road on the southeast . Completion of this hose line will be a backup strategy should the fire be pushed by a east wind. Night shift crews are on duty to provide for structural and asset protection. Air operations were limited today by an inversion. The inversion is expected to lift on Sunday and bucket work to resume.

The hot and dry weather is expected to continue. There is potential for smoke, especially in the afternoon when fire activity peaks due to lower humidities.

PacificCorp has closed sections of powerline to allow firefighters to work in close proximity to power. No structures have been lost.

SR 138 remains closed east of Dry Creek to Toketee Falls. Motorists are advised to check Oregon Department of Transportation website for current conditions on SR 138. To contact ODOT: toll free within Oregon: 511; 1-800-977-ODOT :1-503-588-2941, outside Oregon.

CLOSED: Boulder Flat Campground, Eagle Rock Campground. A Temporary Flying Restriction is in effect over the fire. http://www.faa/. FILL IN
