Rattle Fire Update Sept 2 2008
Incident: Rattle Wildland Fire
Released: 9/2/2008
With forecasted warming and drying weather, communities near the Rattle fire can expect to see more smoke in the air over the coming days. The fire acreage may increase as light fuels, such as Ceanothus, dry out and burn more easily.
Helicopters will continue working the fire using water buckets on hot spots to slow the growth of the fire in areas where heat is still present.
Good progress was made on Monday. Crews removed brush from the 4760, 4775 and 3810 Roads, as well as on the Boulder Creek Trail. Work will continue along the Boulder Creek Trail today, adding more safe access to the interior fire area.
The completion of indirect fireline allows fire managers to effectively monitor the fire in the wilderness. Additionally, with an established anchor point, firefighters are prepared to burn out if fire growth starts to push to the south/southeast out of the wilderness. Because this work is complete, fewer firefighters will be needed to manage the fire, and resources are being released from the fire each day. It is anticipated that by the end of the week, a type 3 team will be in place to manage the fire through its conclusion.
