Jordan Fire Update
MEEKER, Colo. - Rain, clouds, lower temperature and higher humidity over the Jordan Fire has effectively stopped fire spread for now. The fire is located seven miles northwest of Meeker in the Windy Gulch Wilderness Study Area. It is estimated at 971 acres and 80 percent contained. While the fire is not out, managers do not expect measurable growth unless the weather returns to warm and dry conditions.
The 80 percent contained reflects the eastern portion of the fire where suppression actions were taken to stop fire spread. The containment information does not include other areas of the fire that were allowed to burn for resource benefits, primarily to the north and west.
The Southwest Incident Management Team will transfer the fire back to the BLM White River Field office today. Local staff will continue to monitor the fire.
The Incident Management Team appreciates the support received during our assignment in Meeker. This will be the last report unless fire activity resumes.
