Incident: East Slide Rock Ridge Wildland Fire
Released: 9/3/2008

(Cottonwood Ranch, NV) - Several small smoke columns were visible within the fire perimeter Tuesday as pockets of timber continued to burn. Individual and group torching of trees is expected to continue until a significant rain or snow event occurs. Yesterday, fire personnel completed mapping of heat sources both within and outside the wilderness. Crews will continued to search for and extinguish hot spots within 100-300 feet of the perimeter based on the information obtained from radiometric mapping. The Type 3 incident management team arrived yesterday and assummed management of the fire today. Residents and visitors are encouraged to use extreme caution along roadways adjacent to the fire, especially along the Pole Creek and Canyon Pockets Roads. Fire crews have cut and will continue to cut burned trees posing immediate safety hazard. A closure order remains in effect for the area surrounding the fire. No roads are affected by the closure. Please contact a local Forest Service Offices and on the Web at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/htnf. The closure is in place to provide for both public and firefighter safety and when the danger has passed. # # #
