(Elko, NV) - Suppression operations are winding down on the fire. Pole Creek and Island spike camps, which have been "home" to about 300 firefighters for the past week, were closed Monday. About 150 firefighters were released yesterday and more will be released today.
Very limited growth occurred on the south flank in the Cottonwood Creek drainage. Firefighters continued to make good progress in extinguishing hot spots.
On Wednesday, the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team will transition management of the fire to a Type 3 organization. Approximately 75 people, including two hand crews, three engines, two water tenders, and three Type 3 helicopters will remain to work on the fire.
Residents and visitors to the area are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling along the Highway 93 corridor and other roads in the vicinity of the fire due to fire traffic.
