Grants Pass, OR - This is the final update on the Wild Rivers Complex. While the fire continues to smolder and smoke within containment lines, firefighers patrolled and mopped-up areas adjacent to the perimeter. Rehabilition efforts progress well and include road repairs, chipping severed brush and debris, and erosion mitigation work.
The 1,062 acre Horse Mountain Fire was declared fully contained on Sunday evening, August 31.
"With a warming trend forecasted and temperatures expected to climb above normal for the weekend, I strongly request that all visitors to the forest be extra cautious," said Joel King, District Ranger for the Wild Rivers District. "We still have a good deal of fire season ahead of us."
Since the base of operations has been moved to Wild Rivers Ranger District office the Mallard Loop section of Josephine County's Lake Selmac Campground has reopened and is available for reservation and camping.
The Horse Mountain Fire being managed by Larry Wade's Type 3 incident management team.
Road closure-To protect the public and the firefighers working in the area the following closures are still in effect :
- Forest Road 4105 is closed from where it joins the Illinois River Road to the School Flat area.
- Forest Road 2524 is closed from where it joins the Forest Road 25 at the area known locally as the Four Corners.
- Spalding Pond Campground.
Resource on the fire continue to be reduced and currently include - three Type 2 crews, one helicopter, two engines, two dozers, and one water tender - a total of 94 people.
Staffing the fire are representatives from U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Department of Forestry, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Service, State of Colorado, and private contractors.
