Horse Mountain Fully Contained

Grants Pass, OR - The1,062-acre Horse Mountain Fire is fully contained and will transition to Larry Wade's Type 3 incident management team at 3pm today.

Personnel and equipment is rapidly scaling down but firefighters will continue to patrol the fire and are mopping-up to within 300 feet of the fire perimeter. Ongoing rehabilitation efforts include installing waterbars, mulching, seeding and repairing roads.

"My thanks goes out to all the firefighters that have worked hard to limit the size of this fire, and to the public for their patience." said Deputy Incident Commander Buz VanSkike. "I would also ask everyone to stay vigilant since fire season is not nearly over and we have a forecast for more hot and dry weather for the coming week."

The Illinois River Road remains open, but there may still be delays due to road construction in the coming week.

Road closure-- To provide for firefighter and public safety adjacent to the Horse Mountain

Fire the following closures are still in effect:

Current resources on the fire include two Interagency Hot Shot crews, six Type 2 crews, one helicopter, two engines and four water tenders - a total of 275 people.

Resources on the fire include representatives from U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Weather Service, State of Utah and private contractors.
