Horse Mountain Fire 95 percent Contained
Grants Pass, OR - The1,062-acre Horse Mountain Fire is 95 percent contained and is expected to be fully contained tomorrow.
Firefighters are currently focusing their efforts on mop-up 300 feet within the fire perimeter and rehabilitation efforts including installing waterbars, mulching, seeding and repairing roads.
"Because we are continuing to rapidly down size fire camp near Lake Selmac, additional fire traffic will be on the road the next few days." said John Kidd, Incident Commander Trainee.
The Illinois River Road remains open, but there may still be delays due to road construction. The Bolan Lake Campground is open for public use.
Road closure-- To provide for firefighter and public safety adjacent to the Horse Mountain
Fire:
- Forest Road 4105 is closed from where it joins the Illinois River Road to the School Flat area.
- Forest Road 2524 is closed from where it joins the Forest Road 25 at the area know locally as the Four Corners.
- Spalding Pond Campground remains closed.
- The Boy Scout Area of Josephine County's Lake Selmac Park Campground remains closed.
Current resources on the fire include three Interagency Hot Shot crews, six Type 2 crews, three helicopters, three engines, one dozer and four water tenders - a total of 349 people.
Resources on the fire include representatives from U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Weather Service, State of Utah and private contractors.
