Horse Mountain Fire Nearing Containment
Grants Pass, OR - Mop-up and rehabilitation efforts continue on the 1,060-acre Horse Mountain Fire. The fire is 85 percent contained with full containment, a secure line around the fire, estimated by September 1.
A Red Flag warning for low humidity and high temperatures remains in effect until 11 a.m. today.
"Fire traffic will remain heavy in the Selma area over the busy Labor Day weekend," said Deputy Incident Commander Buz VanSkike. "We're asking the public to help us by using extra driving caution, especially at the north end of Lake Selmac, where we're emphasizing fire traffic move slowly and carefully."
The Illinois River Road remains open, but there may still be delays due to road construction.
Road closure-- To provide for firefighter and public safety adjacent to the Horse Mountain
Fire:
Forest Road 4105 is closed from where it joins the Illinois River Road to the School Flat area.
Forest Road 2524 is closed from where it joins the Forest Road 25 at the area know locally as the Four Corners.
Spalding Pond Campground remains closed.
The Boy Scout Area of Josephine County's Lake Selmac Park Campground remains closed.
Current resources on the fire include six Interagency Hot Shot crews, nine Type 2 crews, four helicopters, seven engines, one dozer and seven water tenders - a total of 459 people.
Resources on the fire include representatives from U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Weather Service, State of Utah and private contractors.
