Horse Mountain Fire Now 80 Percent Contained
Grants Pass, OR - Yesterday afternoon, an accident involving a contract water tender occurred on the Horse Mountain Fire. The large truck was delivering water to the fire line when it went off the road. The driver suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital in Grants Pass and released later in the evening. No further details are available at this time.

Road closure; To provide for firefighter and public safety adjacent to the Horse Mountain Fire.
- Forest Road 4105 is closed from where it joins the Illinois River Road to the School Flat area.
- Forest Road 2524 is closed from where it joins the 25 Road at the area know locally as the Four Corners.
- Spalding Pond Campground remains closed.
- The Boy Scout Area of the Lake Selmac Josephine County Park Campground remains closed.
The Illinois River Road remains open, but there may still be delays due to road construction.
A Red Flag Warning went into effect late last night and is expected to stay in effect until mid-day Friday. Gusty winds are expected on ridge tops on the 965-acre Horse Mountain Fire. Fire crews were successful in establishing containment lines along the south and southeast flanks of the fire. Rehabilitation efforts on the northern flank of the fire continue.
On the Horse Mountain Fire, burnout operations, which have removed leaf litter and brush, were safely completed yesterday, Mop-up and rehabilitation efforts will continue today. Overall, the Wild Rivers Complex currently is 985 acres and is 80 percent contained.
Current resources on the fires include seven Interagency Hot Shot crews, 11 Type 2 crews, six helicopters, eight engines, one dozer and eight water tenders - a total of 533 people.
Resources on the fire include representatives from U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Weather Service, State of Utah and private contractors.
