~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Current Fire Situation: The fire is located approximately four miles southeast of Seiad Valley and is burning in timber with heavy fuels and pockets of multiple snags. Fire behavior was minimal during the night and was limited to creeping and smoldering of interior islands of unburned material within the fire perimeter. Firefighters expect no additional fire growth.
Today's Objectives: Fire crews will hold the fire and mop up hot spots along the northern perimeter of the fire - the south side of State Highway 96. Fire suppression damage repair efforts will be completed on indirect dozer lines along the southern side of the fire. Area Closures: The Klamath National Forest issued an emergency closure order (no. 08-05-674) for Walker Creek Road ( Forest Road 46N64) for the section within the Slinkard Fire area. A current forest closure map and description may be found at: www.fs.fed.us/r5/klamath/conditions/.
Evacuations: There are no evacuation orders at this time.
Remarks: Northern California Interagency Incident Management (NorCal) Team II continues to manage the Slinkard Fire for the Klamath National Forest . Fire managers are working with the forest on transition planning to a smaller fire management organization. A National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) has been ordered to manage all the current fires for the Klamath National Forest . State Highway 96 is currently open, however, piloted traffic controls remain in effect for public safety due to rolling material from the steep terrain coming down to the highway. For up to the minute road information call Caltrans at (800) 427-7623 or www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/.
