The Northwest Fire Use Team continues to manage Wildland Fire Use (WFU) fires in the Black Canyon and Mill Creek Wildernesses. The Central Oregon Interagency Management Team is now providing the public information service for the Bridge Creek Fire (1-866-534-9655).
Black Canyon Wilderness
Fire activity has been diminished on the Black Canyon WFU since Tuesday because of some rain, higher humidity, and cooler temperatures. Crews have been limiting the spread of the fire around the fire perimeter and checking spot fires outside that main fire perimeter. Warmer temperature and lower humidity over the upcoming weekend will likely result in more creeping of the fire and more individual tree torching. The fire area remains at about 2,000 acres.
The Area Closure for the fire vicinity has been modified. It is still in effect for the entire Black Canyon Wilderness. Dusty Camp and Boeing Field trailheads remain closed. The following Forest Service roads (FSRs) adjacent to the wilderness are also being closed: FSR 38 is closed between the junction with FSR 1250 and the junction with FSR 3850; FSR 5810 is closed in its entirety, north from its junction with FSR 58; FSR 5840 is closed above its intersection with FSR 5830; FSR 5820 is closed above its intersection with FSR 5830. Permittees and local landowners within the closure area will be allowed access with escorts.
Mill Creek Wilderness
The one-acre Whistler Fire is not active at this time.
Visitors are urged to check with Ochoco WFU Fire Information for the latest conditions before planning a trip to the general vicinity of the Black Canyon Fire.
