FIRE ACTIVITY SUMMARY: The Silvies River Fire is 90% contained and full containment is expected tonight. Firefighters have been hard at work mopping up, rehabilitating fireline, and patrolling the fire perimeter. The perimeter of the fire has not changed, but the approximate acreage of the fire increased from 3,000 acres to 4,040 acres. This correction is due to more accurate mapping, not an increase in fire size. A local Type 3 Team will assume command of the incident at 6 am on Thursday, August 14, 2008. "I appreciate the professionalism and quick work of the Team, especially their cooperation with local experts. I am also thankful to everyone for being so safety-conscious and am pleased by the excellent safety record on the incident" says Joan Suther, Field Manager, Three Rivers Resource Area, Burns District Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
This will be the last update on the Silvies River Fire from the Central Oregon Incident Management Team. Future updates will be provided by the Burns District BLM as needed.
