Panther Fire Update 8/16/08
Incident: Panther - Klamath Theater Wildland Fire
Released: 8/16/2008
Panther Fire/Ukonom Fire North
Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 9:00 am
Update: Harvey's Incident Management Team assumed command of the Ukonom fire north of Wooley Creek today. The team will now be tasked with managing both the Panther and Ukonom Fires. Recent weather conditions have been favorable and have contributed to further success in containing the wildfires. Firefighters continue to make good progress on the Panther Fire as they secure fire lines and increase mop up activities. Crews are working the southwest perimeter of the Panther Fire to increase the depth of the fire line by reducing the amount of dense brush and flammable vegetation that remains in the area.
The Ukonom Fire is east of the KIamath River in the Marble Mountain Wilderness. Firefighters were able to hold the fire along Wooley Creek, which created a natural fire break on the southeast perimeter of the fire. The west and south perimeters have been secured by fire lines. The fire will be monitored closely as it burns naturally into the Marble Mountain Wilderness. The fire is expected to die out as it reaches natural barriers or encounters fall rains.
