New Fork Fire Trail Closures Lifted

Incident: New Fork Wildland Fire
Released: 9/2/2008

Pinedale, Wyo. - The Bridger-Teton National Forest has lifted the temporary trail closure around the New Fork Lakes fire that is burning in the Bridger Wilderness area approximately 19-miles north of the town of Pinedale, WY. The fire has consumed 15,089 acres of bug-killed trees and is presently smoldering in the Wilderness area. "We had about an inch of precipitation on the fire over the weekend and that has really slowed it down," said Fire Management Officer Paul Hutta. There are no structures threatened by the fire.

Over the last week, the New Fork fire was active in the Glimpse Lake and Trapper Lake area within the Wilderness. The Pinedale Ranger District will continue to monitor the fire until a weather changing event completely extinguishes it. Information on the New Fork Lakes fire is available at http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/btnf
