CHANGE OF FIRE COMMAND: On Friday, July 25, at 6 am, the Central Oregon Incident Management Team, led by IC Mark Rapp, transferred command of the Cold Spring Fire to a Type III Incident Management Team led by IC Alan Lawson. Lawson's Team will focus on completion of mop up and ongoing monitoring of fire as aerial infrared indicates hotspots. The team is primarily comprised from local cooperating agencies. The fire is currently laid down, but residents should expect to see smoke and intermittent activity within the fire perimeter as the warmest and driest summer weather approaches. Due to the density of fuels within specific areas of the fire full containment will not occur until a season ending event such as a wetting rain or snow. A long term strategy is being developed for rehabilitation of fire burned areas and initial attack preparedness. Fire information contact is the same.

FIRE ACTIVITY SUMMARY: Corrected acreage of the Cold Springs Fire is currently 7729 with 98% containment. Expected date of containment is August 1, 2008. Within the perimeter, the fire continues to smolder and creep with heavy dead and down fuels. Firefighters will continue aggressive mop up and cold trailing 300 to 500 feet within the perimeter. Patrol and initial attack support is ongoing. One heavy helicopter and one light helicopter are committed to the fire at present. Aerial infrared monitoring of the Cold Springs, Sheep Lake, and Big Lava Fire continues as standard practice.
