Alps Complex Update July 4, 2008

Incident: Alps Complex Wildland Fire
Released: 7/4/2008

Update No. FS-070408-01 July 4, 2008

Alps Complex

Happy Fourth of July!

Current Fire Situation: The Buckhorn and Clem fires have been transferred to the Iron Complex because of their proximity to the Ironside fire and availability of Iron Complex suppression resources. This results in lower acreage for the Alps Complex. The Alps Complex retains eleven fires in the Alps Trinity Wilderness. The Granite and Carey fires remain the priority for management. Yesterday, the Kings Peak crew was able to clear the trail into the Carey Fire and to provide an on-the-ground evaluation. The Granite Fire continues to be held from moving west across Canyon Creek and crews have made significant progress in the Bear Creek drainage on thesoutheast flank of the fire.

Planned Actions: Today, crews on the Granite Fire will continue to hold the fire along Canyon Creek. The Kings Peak crew will improve the trail access and begin suppression actions on the Carey Fire. With the Granite Fire moving toward full containment, the Smith's Creek crew will be split up and half will remain on the Granite Fire and half will join the Kings Peak crew on the Carey Fire. With increased clearing and better visibility there will be a focus today to gain better information about the other fires within the Alps Complex.

Weather: A low level front is coming in from the coast which will lower temperatures, later this evening, following the front winds may shift from the southwest to winds from the north.
